Sunset Beach
Since Devon and I were kids, our family has been visiting North Carolina's Sunset Beach. My mom's side of the family would rent a beach house, we'd pack it to the gils and have a fabulous week in the sun. For the first time since I was in high school, we all met up this year and I got the chance to go.
When the morning came that I was supposed to fly out, I honestly considered canceling; I was exhausted from my New York trip, overworked from extra hours to cover the days lost and nervous about seeing my family without my mom around.
Even though I could only stay for half of the week, it was worth every second.
On the night before I had to leave, we all went down to the beach with a bit of my mom's ashes and I got to scatter them across the ocean. Despite the tears, it was the perfect moment and she would have loved it - family everywhere, waves crashing, stars out and crabs nipping at our toes.
I'm so happy I got on that plane.
Saying goodbye is always the hardest part, but it's easier knowing that I'll be back soon. Here's to another summer of fun next year!
